Linux Kernel up to 5.4.236/5.10.174/5.12.8 s390 dasd_generic_verify_path denial of service

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 5.4.236/5.10.174/5.12.8. It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is the function dasd_generic_verify_path of the component s390. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a denial of service vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-404. The product does not release or incorrectly releases a resource before it is made available for re-use. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: s390/dasd: add missing discipline function Fix crash with illegal operation exception in dasd_device_tasklet. Commit b72949328869 ("s390/dasd: Prepare for additional path event handling") renamed the verify_path function for ECKD but not for FBA and DIAG. This leads to a panic when the path verification function is called for a FBA or DIAG device. Fix by defining a wrapper function for dasd_generic_verify_path().

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2021-47176. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
