CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability described as problematic has been identified in Linux Kernel up to 6.6.20/6.7.8. Affected by this issue is the function __lpass_get_dmactl_handle of the file sound/soc/qcom/lpass-cdc-dma.c of the component qcom. Executing a manipulation can lead to uninitialized pointer. This vulnerability appears as CVE-2024-26799. There is no available exploit. Upgrading the affected component is recommended.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.6.20/6.7.8 and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function __lpass_get_dmactl_handle of the file sound/soc/qcom/lpass-cdc-dma.c of the component qcom. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a uninitialized pointer vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-824. The product accesses or uses a pointer that has not been initialized. The impact remains unknown. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ASoC: qcom: Fix uninitialized pointer dmactl In the case where __lpass_get_dmactl_handle is called and the driver id dai_id is invalid the pointer dmactl is not being assigned a value, and dmactl contains a garbage value since it has not been initialized and so the null check may not work. Fix this to initialize dmactl to NULL. One could argue that modern compilers will set this to zero, but it is useful to keep this initialized as per the same way in functions __lpass_platform_codec_intf_init and lpass_cdc_dma_daiops_hw_params. Cleans up clang scan build warning: sound/soc/qcom/lpass-cdc-dma.c:275:7: warning: Branch condition evaluates to a garbage value [core.uninitialized.Branch]

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2024-26799 since 02/19/2024. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

Upgrading to version 6.6.21, 6.7.9 or 6.8 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 99adc8b4d2f3/d5a7726e6ea6/1382d8b55129 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2024-0773). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
