Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Traccar up to 5.x. This affects some unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-27. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that should be within a restricted directory, but it does not properly neutralize multiple internal "../" sequences that can resolve to a location that is outside of that directory. This is going to have an impact on integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Traccar is an open source GPS tracking system. Versions prior to 6.0 are vulnerable to path traversal and unrestricted upload of file with dangerous type. Since the system allows registration by default, attackers can acquire ordinary user permissions by registering an account and exploit this vulnerability to upload files with the prefix `device.` under any folder. Attackers can use this vulnerability for phishing, cross-site scripting attacks, and potentially execute arbitrary commands on the server. Version 6.0 contains a patch for the issue.
It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2024-24809 since 01/31/2024. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1006 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
The exploit is shared for download at packetstormsecurity.com. It is declared as highly functional.
