You should upgrade the affected component.
Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.1.82/6.6.22/6.7/6.7.10/6.8.1. This issue affects the function skip_io of the component dm-integrity. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: dm-integrity: fix a memory leak when rechecking the data Memory for the "checksums" pointer will leak if the data is rechecked after checksum failure (because the associated kfree won't happen due to 'goto skip_io'). Fix this by freeing the checksums memory before recheck, and just use the "checksum_onstack" memory for storing checksum during recheck.
It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2024-26860 since 02/19/2024. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
Upgrading to version 6.1.83, 6.6.23, 6.7.11, 6.8, 6.8.2 or 6.9-rc1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 20e21c3c0195/338580a7fb9b/74abc2fe0969/6d35654f03c3/55e565c42dce is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
