Linux Kernel up to 6.7.5 drm mpc_combine array index

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability described as problematic has been identified in Linux Kernel up to 6.7.5. Affected by this issue is the function mpc_combine of the component drm. Such manipulation leads to array index. This vulnerability is referenced as CVE-2024-26914. No exploit is available. Upgrading the affected component is recommended.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.7.5. It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function mpc_combine of the component drm. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a array index vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-129. The product uses untrusted input when calculating or using an array index, but the product does not validate or incorrectly validates the index to ensure the index references a valid position within the array. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/amd/display: fix incorrect mpc_combine array size [why] MAX_SURFACES is per stream, while MAX_PLANES is per asic. The mpc_combine is an array that records all the planes per asic. Therefore MAX_PLANES should be used as the array size. Using MAX_SURFACES causes array overflow when there are more than 3 planes. [how] Use the MAX_PLANES for the mpc_combine array size.

The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2024-26914 since 02/19/2024. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/16/2025).

Upgrading to version 6.7.6 or 6.8 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 0bd8ef618a42/39079fe8e660 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
