Linux Kernel up to 5.15.70/5.19.11/6.0 arm_scmi out-of-bounds

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Linux Kernel up to 5.15.70/5.19.11/6.0. Affected is an unknown code block of the component arm_scmi. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-125. The product reads data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: firmware: arm_scmi: Harden accesses to the reset domains Accessing reset domains descriptors by the index upon the SCMI drivers requests through the SCMI reset operations interface can potentially lead to out-of-bound violations if the SCMI driver misbehave. Add an internal consistency check before any such domains descriptors accesses.

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2022-48655 since 02/25/2024. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.

Upgrading to version 5.15.71, 5.19.12 or 6.0 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 1f08a1b26cfc/8e65edf0d376/e9076ffbcaed is able to eliminate this problem.
