A vulnerability was found in Phorum up to 5.0.17a (Forum Software). It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects an unknown function of the file register.php. The manipulation of the argument username with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in Phorum 5.0.17a and earlier allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via (1) the username parameter to register.php or (2) a signature of a logged-in user in "My Control Center," which is not properly handled by control.php.
