A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in phpMyAdmin up to 2.6.3 (Database Administration Software). This issue affects some unknown functionality in the library libraries/auth/cookie.auth.lib.php of the component Libraries. The manipulation of the argument error with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in phpMyAdmin before 2.6.4 allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via (1) the Username to libraries/auth/cookie.auth.lib.php or (2) the error parameter to error.php.
The weakness was presented 09/08/2005 (Website). The advisory is shared at sourceforge.net. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2005-2869 since 09/08/2005. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.

Upgrading to version 2.6.4 eliminates this vulnerability.
