A vulnerability was found in Easy Software Products CUPS up to 1.1.22 (Printing Software) and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function is_path_absolute of the file scheduler/client.c of the component Scheduler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a denial of service vulnerability. The is_path_absolute function in scheduler/client.c for the daemon in CUPS before 1.1.23 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (CPU consumption by tight loop) via a "..\.." URL in an HTTP request.
The bug was discovered 01/07/2005. The weakness was released 09/13/2005 by kmuto as Bug 168072 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2005-2874 since 09/13/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
