A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Linksys WRT54G 2.04.4/3.01.3/3.03.6 (Router Operating System). This issue affects the function initialization of the file ezconfig.asp of the component Default Configuration. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. ezconfig.asp in Linksys WRT54G router 3.01.03, 3.03.6, non-default configurations of 2.04.4, and possibly other versions, does not use an authentication initialization function, which allows remote attackers to obtain encrypted configuration information and, if the key is known, modify the configuration.
The bug was discovered 09/13/2005. The weakness was shared 09/14/2005 by iDefense Labs with iDEFENSE Labs (Website). The advisory is shared at idefense.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2005-2914 since 09/14/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.
