Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Red Hat Migration Toolkit for Containers, Multicluster Engine for Kubernetes, OpenShift API for Data Protection, OpenShift Developer Tools and Services, OpenShift Serverless, OpenShift Source-to-Image Builder Image, Advanced Cluster Management for Kubernetes, Ansible Automation Platform , Enterprise Linux, OpenShift Container Platform, OpenShift Container Platform Assisted Installer, OpenShift Dev Spaces, Openshift Sandboxed Containers, OpenShift Virtualization, OpenStack Platform and Quay. Affected by this issue is an unknown functionality of the component Registry Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integrity check vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-354. The product does not validate or incorrectly validates the integrity check values or "checksums" of a message. This may prevent it from detecting if the data has been modified or corrupted in transmission. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
A flaw was found in the github.com/containers/image library. This flaw allows attackers to trigger unexpected authenticated registry accesses on behalf of a victim user, causing resource exhaustion, local path traversal, and other attacks.
The advisory is shared for download at access.redhat.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2024-3727 since 04/12/2024. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim.
