A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Jelsoft vBulletin (Forum Software). Affected is some unknown processing of the file modcp/index.php. The manipulation of the argument ip with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in vBulletin 3.0.7 and earlier allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the loc parameter to (1) modcp/index.php or (2) admincp/index.php, or the ip parameter to (3) modcp/user.php or (4) admincp/usertitle.php.
The bug was discovered 07/20/2005. The weakness was disclosed 09/21/2005 (Website). The advisory is available at morph3us.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2005-3025 since 09/21/2005. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
