Details
A vulnerability was found in Cacti up to 1.2.26. It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is the function import_package in the library /lib/import.php of the component Package Import. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a code injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-94. The product constructs all or part of a code segment using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the syntax or behavior of the intended code segment. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Cacti provides an operational monitoring and fault management framework. Prior to version 1.2.27, an arbitrary file write vulnerability, exploitable through the "Package Import" feature, allows authenticated users having the "Import Templates" permission to execute arbitrary PHP code on the web server. The vulnerability is located within the `import_package()` function defined into the `/lib/import.php` script. The function blindly trusts the filename and file content provided within the XML data, and writes such files into the Cacti base path (or even outside, since path traversal sequences are not filtered). This can be exploited to write or overwrite arbitrary files on the web server, leading to execution of arbitrary PHP code or other security impacts. Version 1.2.27 contains a patch for this issue.
The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2024-25641 since 02/08/2024. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. Additional levels of successful authentication are necessary for exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
The exploit is available at 0day.today. It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:lib/import.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
Upgrading to version 1.2.27 eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Exploit-DB (52225) and 0day.today (39613). If you want to get best quality of vulnerability data, you may have to visit VulDB.
