Details
A vulnerability was found in Directus up to 10.10.x. It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function alias of the component API. The manipulation of the argument text with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. Impacted is confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
Directus is a real-time API and App dashboard for managing SQL database content. A user with permission to view any collection using redacted hashed fields can get access the raw stored version using the `alias` functionality on the API. Normally, these redacted fields will return `**********` however if we change the request to `?alias[workaround]=redacted` we can instead retrieve the plain text value for the field. This can be avoided by removing permission to view the sensitive fields entirely from users or roles that should not be able to see them. This vulnerability is fixed in 10.11.0.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2024-34708 since 05/07/2024. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. Additional levels of successful authentication are required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1592.
Upgrading to version 10.11.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
