Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.8.2. It has been classified as critical. Affected is an unknown functionality of the component ll_temac. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: ll_temac: platform_get_resource replaced by wrong function The function platform_get_resource was replaced with devm_platform_ioremap_resource_byname and is called using 0 as name. This eventually ends up in platform_get_resource_byname in the call stack, where it causes a null pointer in strcmp. if (type == resource_type(r) && !strcmp(r->name, name)) It should have been replaced with devm_platform_ioremap_resource.
The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2024-35796. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 250076 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2024-35796), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 5.10.215, 5.15.154, 6.1.84, 6.6.24, 6.7.12 or 6.8.3 eliminates this vulnerability.
