A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.6.27/6.8.6. Affected is the function sg_remove_sfp_usercontext of the component scsi. In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: scsi: sg: Avoid sg device teardown race sg_remove_sfp_usercontext() must not use sg_device_destroy() after calling scsi_device_put(). sg_device_destroy() is accessing the parent scsi_device request_queue which will already be set to NULL when the preceding call to scsi_device_put() removed the last reference to the parent scsi_device. The resulting NULL pointer exception will then crash the kernel.
The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2024-35954 since 05/17/2024. The exploitability is told to be difficult. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
Upgrading to version 6.6.28 or 6.8.7 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 46af9047523e/b0d1ebcc1a95/27f58c04a8f4 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
