Details
A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.6.1 and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function drv_data of the component llcc. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: soc: qcom: llcc: Handle a second device without data corruption Usually there is only one llcc device. But if there were a second, even a failed probe call would modify the global drv_data pointer. So check if drv_data is valid before overwriting it.
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2023-52871 since 05/21/2024. The exploitation appears to be easy. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/26/2025).
Upgrading to version 5.4.261, 5.10.201, 5.15.139, 6.1.63, 6.5.12 or 6.6.2 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch cc1a1dcb411f/5e5b85ea0f4b/995ee1e84e8d/f0ef883cae30/3565684309e5/1143bfb9b055/f1a1bc8775b2 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
