Linux Kernel up to 5.10.167/5.15.93/6.1.11 xfrm_xlate32_attr array index

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Linux Kernel up to 5.10.167/5.15.93/6.1.11. This affects the function xfrm_xlate32_attr. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a array index vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-129. The product uses untrusted input when calculating or using an array index, but the product does not validate or incorrectly validates the index to ensure the index references a valid position within the array. The impact remains unknown. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: xfrm/compat: prevent potential spectre v1 gadget in xfrm_xlate32_attr() int type = nla_type(nla); if (type > XFRMA_MAX) { return -EOPNOTSUPP; } @type is then used as an array index and can be used as a Spectre v1 gadget. if (nla_len(nla) < compat_policy[type].len) { array_index_nospec() can be used to prevent leaking content of kernel memory to malicious users.

It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2023-52746 since 05/21/2024. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 11/08/2024).
