Linux Kernel up to 5.15.93/6.1.11 in_dev_get null pointer dereference

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 5.15.93/6.1.11. This issue affects the function in_dev_get. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: RDMA/irdma: Fix potential NULL-ptr-dereference in_dev_get() can return NULL which will cause a failure once idev is dereferenced in in_dev_for_each_ifa_rtnl(). This patch adds a check for NULL value in idev beforehand. Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with SVACE.

The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2023-52744 since 05/21/2024. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
