Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 5.15.1. It has been classified as problematic. This affects an unknown code block of the component dt9812. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a allocation of resources vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-770. The product allocates a reusable resource or group of resources on behalf of an actor without imposing any restrictions on the size or number of resources that can be allocated, in violation of the intended security policy for that actor. The impact remains unknown. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: comedi: dt9812: fix DMA buffers on stack USB transfer buffers are typically mapped for DMA and must not be allocated on the stack or transfers will fail. Allocate proper transfer buffers in the various command helpers and return an error on short transfers instead of acting on random stack data. Note that this also fixes a stack info leak on systems where DMA is not used as 32 bytes are always sent to the device regardless of how short the command is.
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2021-47477 since 05/22/2024. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 276407 (TencentOS Server 4: kernel (TSSA-2025:0047)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 4.4.292, 4.9.290, 4.14.255, 4.19.217, 5.4.159, 5.10.79, 5.14.18 or 5.15.2 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch a6af69768d5c/365a346cda82/8a52bc480992/39ea61037ae7/3efb7af8ac43/786f5b034504/3ac273d154d6/20cebb8b620d/536de747bc48 is able to eliminate this problem.
