A vulnerability has been found in Cynox Cyphor 0.19 and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code of the file newmsg.php. The manipulation of the argument nick with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Multiple SQL injection vulnerabilities in Cyphor 0.19 allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL and obtain administrative access via (1) the fid parameter of newmsg.php, which can enable XSS attacks when the SQL syntax is invalid or (2) the nick parameter of lostpwd.php.
The weakness was published 10/08/2005 by rgod (Website). The advisory is available at rgod.altervista.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2005-3236 since 10/14/2005. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059.007 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
After before and not just, there has been an exploit disclosed. It is possible to download the exploit at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:newmsg.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 12202 (Cyphor Multiple Input Validation Vulnerabilities).
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
