A vulnerability has been found in Novell NetMail 3.5.2 and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown processing of the component Agent. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-121. A stack-based buffer overflow condition is a condition where the buffer being overwritten is allocated on the stack (i.e., is a local variable or, rarely, a parameter to a function). Stack-based buffer overflow in the NMAP Agent for Novell NetMail 3.52C and possibly earlier versions allows local users to execute arbitrary code via a long user name in the USER command.
The bug was discovered 07/18/2005. The weakness was shared 10/12/2005 by Tan Chew Keong with Secunia Research (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at support.novell.com.
