Details
A vulnerability was found in man-group dtale (the affected version is unknown). It has been classified as very critical. Affected is an unknown code of the file /update-settings. The manipulation of the argument SECRET_KEY with an unknown input leads to a hard-coded key vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-321. The use of a hard-coded cryptographic key significantly increases the possibility that encrypted data may be recovered. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
man-group/dtale version 3.10.0 is vulnerable to an authentication bypass and remote code execution (RCE) due to improper input validation. The vulnerability arises from a hardcoded `SECRET_KEY` in the flask configuration, allowing attackers to forge a session cookie if authentication is enabled. Additionally, the application fails to properly restrict custom filter queries, enabling attackers to execute arbitrary code on the server by bypassing the restriction on the `/update-settings` endpoint, even when `enable_custom_filters` is not enabled. This vulnerability allows attackers to bypass authentication mechanisms and execute remote code on the server.
The advisory is available at huntr.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2024-3408 since 04/05/2024. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 10/16/2024). This vulnerability is assigned to T1600.001 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
