A vulnerability was found in NullSoft WinAmp 2.81/2.91/3.0/3.1 (Multimedia Player Software). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality in the library IN_MIDI.DLL. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. The IN_MIDI.DLL plugin 3.01 and earlier, as used in Winamp 2.91, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a MIDI file with a large "Track data size" value.
The weakness was presented 09/09/2003 by Luigi Auriemma (Website). The advisory is shared for download at aluigi.altervista.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2003-0765 since 09/09/2003. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details and also a public exploit are known.
