A vulnerability was found in Alexander Palmo Simple PHP Blog up to 0.4.5 (Blog Software). It has been classified as problematic. This affects an unknown function of the file preview_cgi.php. The manipulation of the argument scheme_name with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in Simple PHP Blog 0.4.5 and earlier allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the (1) entry, (2) blog_subject, and (3) blog_text parameters (involving the temp_subject variable) in (a) preview_cgi.php and (b) preview_static_cgi.php, or (4) scheme_name parameter and (5) bg_color parameters (involving the preset_name and result variables) in (c) colors.php.
The bug was discovered 09/22/2005. The weakness was disclosed 11/02/2005 by Nenad Jovanovic (Website). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2005-3473 since 11/02/2005. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details and a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
The exploit is shared for download at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 41 days.
