A vulnerability was found in Cutephp CuteNews 1.4.1 (Content Management System). It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects an unknown part of the file show_archives.php. The manipulation of the argument template with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in CuteNews 1.4.1 allows remote attackers to include arbitrary files, execute code, and gain privileges via "../" sequences in the template parameter to (1) show_archives.php and (2) show_news.php.

The weakness was published 11/03/2005 by retrogod (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at vupen.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2005-3507 since 11/06/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.
