A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in MySource 2.14.0/2.14.0rc2. This issue affects an unknown functionality of the file upgrade_in_progress_backend.php. The manipulation of the argument bgcolor with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in MySource 2.14.0 allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via (1) the target_url parameter in upgrade_in_progress_backend.php, (2) the stylesheet parameter in edit_table_cell_type_wysiwyg.php, and the bgcolor parameter in (3) insert_table.php, (4) edit_table_cell_props.php, (5) header.php, (6) edit_table_row_props.php, and (7) edit_table_props.php.
The bug was discovered 09/30/2005. The weakness was disclosed 10/18/2005 by Secunia Security Advisories with Secunia Research (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at marc.theaimsgroup.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2005-3520 since 11/06/2005. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1059.007 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 18 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:upgrade_in_progress_backend.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (22771), Exploit-DB (26357), SecurityFocus (BID 15132†), OSVDB (20044†) and Secunia (SA16946†).
