The Nextcloud Desktop Client is a tool to synchronize files from Nextcloud Server with your computer. A code injection in Nextcloud Desktop Client for macOS allowed to load arbitrary code when starting the client with DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES set in the enviroment. It is recommended that the Nextcloud Desktop client is upgraded to 3.12.0.
The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2024-37885 since 06/10/2024. The exploitation is known to be difficult. An attack has to be approached locally. Additional levels of successful authentication are needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059 for this issue.
Upgrading to version 3.12.0 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
