Details
A vulnerability was found in D-Link G403, G415, G416, M18, R03, R04, R12, R18, E30, M30, M32, M60, R32, E15 and R15 and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown function of the component URL Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
Certain models of D-Link wireless routers have a path traversal vulnerability. Unauthenticated attackers on the same local area network can read arbitrary system files by manipulating the URL.
The advisory is shared for download at twcert.org.tw. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2024-6044 since 06/17/2024. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack needs to approached within the local network. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1006.
