A vulnerability was found in PhpWebThings 1.4.4 and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown function of the file forum.php. The manipulation of the argument forum with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-89. SQL injection vulnerability in forum.php in PhpWebThings 1.4.4 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via the forum parameter.

The weakness was published 11/03/2005 by Linux_Drox (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at archives.neohapsis.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2005-3585 since 11/16/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1505 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

A public exploit has been developed in Perl and been published 13 hours after the advisory. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:forum.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 20170 (phpWebThings Multiple Scripts SQL Injection), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses and running in the context r. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 12207 (phpWebThings Forum.PHP SQL Injection Vulnerability).
