Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.9.3. Affected by this issue is an unknown code of the component PAC1934. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a array index vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-129. The product uses untrusted input when calculating or using an array index, but the product does not validate or incorrectly validates the index to ensure the index references a valid position within the array. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: iio: adc: PAC1934: fix accessing out of bounds array index Fix accessing out of bounds array index for average current and voltage measurements. The device itself has only 4 channels, but in sysfs there are "fake" channels for the average voltages and currents too.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2024-38631 since 06/18/2024. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 09/09/2024).
Upgrading to version 6.9.4 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 8dbcb3a8cfdf/51fafb3cd7fc is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
