A vulnerability was found in Greg Roelofs pnmtopng 2.37.3/2.37.4/2.37.5/2.37.6/2.38. It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects some unknown functionality. Off-by-one buffer overflow in pnmtopng before 2.39, when using the -alpha command line option (Alphas_Of_Color), allows attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code via a crafted PNM file with exactly 256 colors.
The bug was discovered 11/21/2005. The weakness was published 11/17/2005 (Website). The advisory is shared at secunia.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2005-3662 since 11/18/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
