Details
A vulnerability was found in Ghostscript (version unknown). It has been classified as critical. Affected is an unknown function. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
An issue was discovered in Artifex Ghostscript before 10.03.1. There is path traversal (via a crafted PostScript document) to arbitrary files if the current directory is in the permitted paths. For example, there can be a transformation of ../../foo to ./../../foo and this will grant access if ./ is permitted.
The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2024-33870 since 04/27/2024. The exploitability is told to be easy. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1006.
