A vulnerability was found in Amax Information Technologies Magic Winmail Server up to 4.2 (Mail Server Software). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the file badlogin.php. The manipulation of the argument retid with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in AMAX Magic Winmail Server 4.2 (build 0824) and earlier allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the (1) retid parameter in badlogin.php, (2) Content-Type headers in HTML mails, and (3) HTML mail attachments.
The bug was discovered 10/28/2005. The weakness was published 11/18/2005 by Secunia Security Advisories with Secunia Research (Website). The advisory is shared for download at vupen.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2005-3692 since 11/19/2005. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details and also a exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.
