A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in VMware Salt Project (Automation Software). This issue affects an unknown code block of the component File Server. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
A specially crafted url can be created which leads to a directory traversal in the salt file server. A malicious user can read an arbitrary file from a Salt master’s filesystem.
