You should upgrade the affected component.
Details
A vulnerability was found in Gogs up to 0.13.0. It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown functionality of the file internal/ssh/ssh.go of the component SSH Connection Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a argument injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-88. The product constructs a string for a command to be executed by a separate component
in another control sphere, but it does not properly delimit the
intended arguments, options, or switches within that command string. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
The built-in SSH server of Gogs through 0.13.0 allows argument injection in internal/ssh/ssh.go, leading to remote code execution. Authenticated attackers can exploit this by opening an SSH connection and sending a malicious --split-string env request if the built-in SSH server is activated. Windows installations are unaffected.
The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2024-39930 since 07/04/2024. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059 for this issue.
It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 234496 (FreeBSD : gogs -- Multiple vulnerabilities (0230343c-1908-11f0-accc-b42e991fc52e)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at github.com.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Exploit-DB (52348), Tenable (234496) and EUVD (EUVD-2024-3615). If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
