Summary
A vulnerability labeled as critical has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.6.33/6.9.4. This impacts an unknown function of the component ipc4-topology. The manipulation results in null pointer dereference. This vulnerability was named CVE-2024-39473. There is no available exploit. The affected component should be upgraded.
Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.6.33/6.9.4. Affected is an unknown part of the component ipc4-topology. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ASoC: SOF: ipc4-topology: Fix input format query of process modules without base extension If a process module does not have base config extension then the same format applies to all of it's inputs and the process->base_config_ext is NULL, causing NULL dereference when specifically crafted topology and sequences used.
The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2024-39473 since 06/25/2024. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
Upgrading to version 6.6.34 or 6.9.5 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch e3ae00ee238b/9e16f17a2a0e/ffa077b2f6ad is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
