A vulnerability was found in SpeedProject Squeez 5.0 Build 4285 (Project Management Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is the function lstrcat in the library cxzip60.dll. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Stack-based buffer overflow in (1) CxZIP60.dll and (2) CxZIP60u.dll, as used in SpeedProject products including (a) ZipStar 5.0 Build 4285, (b) Squeez 5.0 Build 4285, and (c) SpeedCommander 11.0 Build 4430 and 10.51 Build 4430, allows user-assisted attackers to execute arbitrary code via a ZIP archive containing a long filename.

The bug was discovered 11/03/2005. The weakness was shared 11/24/2005 by Tan Chew Keong as confirmed posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2005-3831 since 11/26/2005. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be launched remotely.
