Details
A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Linux Kernel up to 5.15.161/6.1.95/6.6.35/6.9.6. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown functionality of the component imx. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a deadlock vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-833. The product contains multiple threads or executable segments that are waiting for each other to release a necessary lock, resulting in deadlock. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: serial: imx: Introduce timeout when waiting on transmitter empty By waiting at most 1 second for USR2_TXDC to be set, we avoid a potential deadlock. In case of the timeout, there is not much we can do, so we simply ignore the transmitter state and optimistically try to continue.
It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2024-40967 since 07/12/2024. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
