Details
A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 5.15.161/6.1.95/6.6.35/6.9.6 and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code of the component hisilicon. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: crypto: hisilicon/sec - Fix memory leak for sec resource release The AIV is one of the SEC resources. When releasing resources, it need to release the AIV resources at the same time. Otherwise, memory leakage occurs. The aiv resource release is added to the sec resource release function.
The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2024-41002 since 07/12/2024. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 207738 (Ubuntu 20.04 LTS : Linux kernel vulnerabilities (USN-7009-2)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
