A vulnerability was found in Google API Search up to 1.3.1 (Automation Software). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown part of the file index.php. The manipulation of the argument REQ with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in index.php in Google API Search 1.3.1 and earlier allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via hex-encoded values in the REQ parameter.
The weakness was disclosed 11/28/2005 by r0t (Website). The advisory is available at vupen.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2005-3869 since 11/29/2005. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059.007 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:index.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
