A vulnerability was found in Extreme Corporate Extreme Search up to 6.0. It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects an unknown function of the file extremesearch.php. The manipulation of the argument search with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in extremesearch.php in Extreme Search Corporate Edition 6.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the search parameter.
The weakness was released 12/01/2005 by r0t (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at vupen.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2005-3972 since 12/03/2005. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction.
