Details
A vulnerability classified as critical was found in txtdot up to 1.6.x. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the file /get of the component HTTP GET Request Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a server-side request forgery vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-918. The web server receives a URL or similar request from an upstream component and retrieves the contents of this URL, but it does not sufficiently ensure that the request is being sent to the expected destination. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
txtdot is an HTTP proxy that parses only text, links, and pictures from pages, removing ads and heavy scripts. Prior to version 1.7.0, a Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) vulnerability in the `/get` route of txtdot allows remote attackers to use the server as a proxy to send HTTP GET requests to arbitrary targets and retrieve information in the internal network. Version 1.7.0 prevents displaying the response of forged requests, but the requests can still be sent. For complete mitigation, a firewall between txtdot and other internal network resources should be set.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2024-41812 since 07/22/2024. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely.
