A vulnerability was found in CFMagic Magic Forum Personal up to 2.5 (Forum Software) and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is an unknown function of the file search_forums.cfm. The manipulation of the argument Words with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in CFMagic Magic Forum Personal 2.5 and earlier allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the Words parameter in search_forums.cfm, as used in the "Search For:" field.
The weakness was released 12/07/2005 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at vupen.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2005-4072 since 12/08/2005. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
