A vulnerability has been found in eFiction 1.0 and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown functionality of the file install.php of the component System Administration. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. eFiction 1.0, 1.1, and 2.0, in unspecified environments, might allow remote attackers to conduct unauthorized operations by directly accessing (1) install.php or (2) upgrade.php. NOTE: it is unclear whether this is a vulnerability in eFiction itself or the result of incorrect system administration practices, e.g. by not removing utility scripts once they have been used.
The weakness was disclosed 12/11/2005 by retrogod (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at archives.neohapsis.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2005-4174 since 12/11/2005. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction.
