A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Php Web Scripts Link Up Gold up to 2.5 (Programming Language Software). This issue affects an unknown code of the file tell_friend.php. The manipulation of the argument sort with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Link Up Gold 2.5 and earlier allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via (1) link parameter to tell_friend.php, (2) phrase[] parameter to search.php in a search_links_advanced action, and the (3) direction or (4) sort parameter to articles.php.
The weakness was shared 12/14/2005 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at vupen.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2005-4231 since 12/14/2005. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1059.007 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:tell_friend.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
