It is suggested to upgrade the affected component.
Details
A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.10.3 and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects the function drm_syncobj_put. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/v3d: Fix potential memory leak in the timestamp extension If fetching of userspace memory fails during the main loop, all drm sync objs looked up until that point will be leaked because of the missing drm_syncobj_put. Fix it by exporting and using a common cleanup helper. (cherry picked from commit 753ce4fea62182c77e1691ab4f9022008f25b62e)
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2024-42263 since 07/30/2024. The exploitation appears to be difficult. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 212724 (Ubuntu 22.04 LTS / 24.04 LTS : Linux kernel vulnerabilities (USN-7154-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 6.10.4 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 9b5033ee2c5a/0e50fcc20bd8 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
