Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Envolution (the affected version unknown). This affects an unknown part of the file modules.php of the component News Module. The manipulation of the argument catid with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. This is going to have an impact on integrity. The summary by CVE is:
Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the News module in Envolution allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the (1) startrow and (2) catid parameter. NOTE: this issue might be resultant from the SQL injection problem (CVE-2005-4263).
The weakness was presented 12/13/2005 by X1ngBox (Website). The advisory is shared at vupen.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2005-4262 since 12/15/2005. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details and a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
After immediately, there has been an exploit disclosed. The exploit is shared for download at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:modules.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
