Linux Kernel up to 6.10.2 RDMA denial of service

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.10.2. It has been declared as problematic. This affects an unknown function of the component RDMA. The manipulation results in denial of service. This vulnerability is identified as CVE-2024-43872. There is not any exploit available. It is recommended to upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.10.2. It has been classified as problematic. Affected is some unknown processing of the component RDMA. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a denial of service vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-404. The product does not release or incorrectly releases a resource before it is made available for re-use. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: RDMA/hns: Fix soft lockup under heavy CEQE load CEQEs are handled in interrupt handler currently. This may cause the CPU core staying in interrupt context too long and lead to soft lockup under heavy load. Handle CEQEs in BH workqueue and set an upper limit for the number of CEQE handled by a single call of work handler.

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2024-43872 since 08/17/2024. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 212625 (EulerOS 2.0 SP12 : kernel (EulerOS-SA-2024-2953)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 6.10.3 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 06580b33c183/2fdf34038369 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (212625) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2024-1888). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
