Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.6.44/6.10.3. It has been classified as critical. Affected is an unknown part of the component mlx5. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net/mlx5: Always drain health in shutdown callback There is no point in recovery during device shutdown. if health work started need to wait for it to avoid races and NULL pointer access. Hence, drain health WQ on shutdown callback.
The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2024-43866 since 08/17/2024. The exploitability is told to be difficult. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
